Our Programs
As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Discovery P.S. supports student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities.
Our school:
- promotes a safe and supportive learning environment in the context of the YRDSB Caring and Safe Schools Policy and Procedures
- provides Special Education Programs
- provides before and after school care. Service is provide by "Fun on the Run"
- provides after school programming and support for youth (ages 9-13), by the BGC - York Region.
We support our community through:
- Food Baskets for Fall, Winter, and Spring
- Family Tea Time - Info Sessions
- Coordination with CCSYR to support Newcomers
- Food drives for Humanity First and Vaughan Food Bank
- Holiday toy drive for the Vaughan Toy Drive
- Winter clothing donation

We also have Community Navigators who speak French, Hindi, Spanish, Turkish, and Urdu, and provide translation support for parents as well as access to resources in York Region.
Discovery Breakfast Program
Our students start the day off right with a free “grab and go” breakfast of healthy foods including fruits, vegetables, muffins, cereal, milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. Funding is provided by the Student Nutrition Program (SNP) and President’s Choice Children’s Charity (PCCharity) - Power Full Kids | Eat Well school program.
Healthy Schools
DPS is committed to promoting the school’s well-being through the Healthy Schools Program. This program promotes the physical, mental and social well-being of the whole school community. It takes a holistic approach where school administration, school staff, families, students and community partners work together to create a healthy setting for living, learning and working. We have developed and implemented an Action Plan with initiatives to address the identified health priorities of our school. DPS has been recognized as a York Region Public Health Healthy School
